Located in the famous Bolgheri district on Tuscany’s coastline, the estate of Tenuta Argentiera is neighbored by some of Italy’s most famous wineries: Guado al Tasso, Ornellaia and Tenuta San Guido (Sassicaia). Back in Etruscan times, the plateau of the tenuta was rich in canals, natural springs and silver mines, the latter of which gives the estate its name.The estate produces several wines, one of which, the Bolgheri Superiore, is always a big, rich and silky red. Blended from cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, “the wines always have a harmonious, soulful nature to them,” comments James Suckling.
Argentiera, our Doc Bolgheri Superiore, is a wine with a rich and silky taste whose grapes come from the most dedicated vineyards of Tenuta Argentiera. The long fining in Frenc oak barrique, the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the unique terroir of Tenuta Argenitera, make this wine one of the highest expressions of the Bolgheri Area. 


Deep bright ruby red. On the nose, it expresses complex aromas ranging from fruity notes of cherries and plums to spicy ones of almond husk, leather, black pepper, nutmeg and sugared almonds. There are balsamic notes, such as mint and eucalyptus.  Pleasant hints of cocoa and Virginia blond tobacco in the finish. Tannins are mouthfilling, sweet, but velvety and large. A well-balanced wine whose supporting acidity and savoury character counterbalance alcohol with the help of tannins.


"The 2012 Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera takes a much appreciated read of the hot vintage in which elegance and finesse are made a priority. This is not one of those over extracted and impenetrable red wines from the Tuscan coast. Instead, this pretty Bolgheri Superiore offers good fruit intensity with dark berry and plum backed by integrated spice, leather and tobacco.
